Primary Purpose:

This intern position will serve as a part-time position in which the primary responsibilities will be assisting the Business Office with accounting, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions with the goal of learning governmental accounting practices, internal controls, and business office procedures within an Education Service Center environment.

This position will include collaborating with accounting staff to develop professional skills, gain exposure to real-world public sector accounting operations, and assist with daily financial processes and special projects that support the efficient operation of the Business Office.

This position will be part time consisting of up to 19.5 hours per week. For students still enrolled in high school, college, or a university, the fall and spring interim student hours will be flexible with the student’s schedule. We are seeking high school students who are 18 years of age, as well as active students enrolled in accounting, business, or a related field at Amarillo College or West Texas A&M University, or students who have recently graduated.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Assists Business Office staff with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
  2. Assists with preparation, review, and processing of invoices, purchase orders, and payment documentation under supervision
  3. Assists with special projects for the Business Office, including data analysis, process documentation, and workflow improvement initiatives
  4. Assists with vendor research, vendor file maintenance, and verification of vendor information as directed
  5. Assists with the validation, review, and organization of financial information to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established procedures
  6. Maintains a professional level of confidentiality and security of data.
  7. Performs duties that directly and/or indirectly impact student performance in Region 
  8. Maintains a professional level of confidentiality regarding all ESC matters
  9. Supports the mission, goals, and objectives of the ESC strategic plan
  10. Upholds and adheres to safety rules and policies of the ESC safety program
  11. Performs professional responsibilities as required by ESC policies, processes, and procedures
  12. Manages time, calendar, and job responsibilities to meet deadlines 
  13. Meets proficiency levels of required technology skills as outlined by supervisor
  14. Incorporates appropriate technology in daily work and exhibits continual growth in technologies as outlined by supervisor
  15. Performs other duties as assigned
