Primary Purpose:
To teach First Aid and CPR classes for Head Start Staff. To comply with all federal guidelines (Head Start Performance Standards, Transmittal Notices, etc.) and local Head Start policies in providing children and families with Head Start services. Deliver all Head Start/Early Head Start supplies and equipment in a manner consistent with federal Head Start Guidelines and local program goals. Assist in the implementation of safety standards within the head start program.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High School diploma or GED required
- Current First Aid and CPR Instructor certification required or willingness to obtain within one month
Special Knowledge/Skills/Experience:
- Valid Texas driver’s license required
- Current state liability insurance required
- Must be service oriented with strong organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and takes initiative and responsibility in completing assignments
- Good communication skills required
- Moderate computer skills required
- Ability to be flexible required
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve and prioritize tasks
- Travel required
Working Conditions:
- Tools/Equipment Used: Small hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools; light truck or van; standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals
- Posture: Must be physically able to tolerate frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
- Motion: Must be physically able to tolerate frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving
- Lifting: Must be physically able to tolerate heavy lifting and carrying (50 pounds and over) on a daily basis
- Environment: Must be physically able to tolerate cleaning products and sanitizers, work outside and inside; work on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; occasional exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent travel between work locations and occasional region-wide travel

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Inspects and repairs existing Head Start/Early Head Start playground equipment installed in Amarillo and the region.
- Assists with bids for playground equipment and installation.
- Assists with organization and supervision of playground equipment installation and/or relocation as needed.
- Provides training and assistance on playground equipment and safety, which may require out of region travel.
- Assists with moving classroom/office furniture as needed and documents movement of inventory on appropriate ESC forms.
- Assembles and delivers furniture and materials to Head Start/Early Head Start classrooms in Amarillo and regional school districts.
- Keeps Head Start truck organized and cleaned out on a regular basis.
- Disposes of any item that is no longer usable.
- Loads and unloads items (including heavy items) for all Head Start/Early Head Start staff.
- Assists with Safety Drills within Cleveland/Nelson centers.
- Performs safety inspections within the classroom to monitor emergency binders and first aid kits for all Early Head Start/Head Start sites.
- Assists in the development and implementation of safety policies and procedures within the Head Start and Early Start program.
- Attends safety seminars to remain current on changing safety standards.
- Supports the organization and maintenance of inventory across all regional sites.
- Assists with maintaining inventory in all storage facilities including the barn at Cleveland and ECI storage.
- Maintains a functioning cell phone and is accessible through this phone as deemed appropriate by the director. A functioning cell phone means that it is charged, activated, messages checked, and mailbox emptied regularly.
- Reports for work ready to perform responsibilities.
- Performs duties that directly and/or indirectly impact student performance in Region 16.
- Maintains a professional level of confidentiality regarding all ESC matters.
- Supports the mission, goals, and objectives of the ESC strategic plan.
- Upholds and adheres to safety rules and policies of the ESC safety program.
- Performs professional responsibilities as required by ESC policies, processes, and procedures.
- Manages time, calendar, and job responsibilities to meet deadlines.
- Meets proficiency levels of required technology skills as outlined by supervisor.
- Incorporates appropriate technology in daily work and exhibits continual growth in technologies as outlined by supervisor.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
